Your visit to Pure Gold Sugaring begins at our historic family sugarhouse, where you’ll step back in time and discover how generations of Vermonters turned maple sap into syrup long before today’s modern equipment. Surrounded by original and antique sugaring tools, photographs, buckets, taps, gathering equipment, an old evaporator, and pieces of local maple history, you’ll learn how sugarmakers worked in the woods, collected sap, boiled, filtered, graded, and finished their syrup. Along the way, we’ll share the bigger story of maple in Vermont—from early sugaring traditions and the knowledge of Indigenous peoples, including the Abenaki, to the generations of Vermont families who built the maple industry that exists today. You’ll also hear stories from our own family and learn how four generations of sugarmakers have shaped Pure Gold Sugaring. Then we’ll bring you into the present. Walk from the old sugarhouse to our working modern sugarhouse and see just how much maple production has changed. We’ll show you the equipment we use today, explain vacuum collection and reverse osmosis, and take you through the process of transforming sap from our Vermont sugarwoods into pure, wood-fired maple syrup. And, of course, no maple experience would be complete without tasting it! Your tour finishes with a guided maple tasting featuring different grades of pure Vermont maple syrup and some of the specialty maple products we make right here—including maple cream, maple sugar, and other seasonal treats.
